Current Library Projects
The Library has a history of undertaking research in the field of library and information work. We are currently involved in the following projects:
University Library photography competition
In February and March 2010 the Library is holding its first photography competition. The rules and regulations are detailed below.
If you have queries, please contact Brant Hickman (b.m.hickman@lboro.ac.uk)
- The subject for Loughborough University's Photographic Competition 2010 is “What do you like about Loughborough University Library?”. The theme is open to individual interpretation but entries must capture what individuals like about the University Library.
- Entrants can submit up to three photos as JPEGS, in colour or black and white. Pictures should be between 1Mb and 3mB (1200x900 pixels to 2048x1536 pixels). Each entry must have a title and location and may include an optional description.
- Images may be digitally enhanced to remove spots or scratches, but not manipulated. Entrants can enhance the picture to make it brighter, clearer etc, but not manipulate the content. Loughborough University Library reserves the right to exclude any image they believe may have been excessively treated so as to alter its authenticity.
- The competition is open to Loughborough University employees and students
- When photos are submitted, entrants to the competition should provide their name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and also their position in the University and where the photo was taken. The University Library will only ever use your personal details for the purposes of administering this competition, and will not publish them or provide them to anyone without your permission.
- Entries should be sent as an e-mail attachment to Brant Hickman, Facilities Manager, Loughborough University Library, (b.m.hickman@lboro.ac.uk ). He can be contacted on 01509 222350 for any questions relating to the competition.
- The competition will be open from the 10th February to midnight on the 26th March 2010.
- All entries will be judged by the Library's Marketing and Publications Group. They will consider a range of factors including composition, technical ability, originality and interpretation of the brief. There will be three prizes:
1st prize: Book tokens to the value of £70
2nd prize: Book tokens to the value of £50
3rd prize: Book tokens to the value of £30
- All entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party. The entrant must be the sole owner of copyright in all photographs entered and must have obtained permission of any people. Further, entrants must not have breached any laws when taking their photographs.
- Entrants will retain copyright in the photographs that they submit to Loughborough University Library. By entering the competition, all entrants grant the University Library the right to publish and exhibit their photographs on the Library's website, in the University Library's FlickR account and in an exhibition.
- By entering, entrants will be deemed to have agreed to be bound by these rules and the University Library reserves the right to exclude any entry from the competition at any time and in its absolute discretion if the University Library has reason to believe that an entrant has breached these rules.
- The University Library reserves the right to cancel this competition or alter any of the rules at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, and if circumstances arise outside of its control.
- We will not tolerate or accept derogatory or obscene photographs. Any photograph deemed to be of such a nature will result in immediate disqualification from this and future competitions.
- If the winner is unable to be contacted after reasonable attempts have been made, the University Library reserves the right to either offer the prize to a runner up or to re-offer the prize in any future competition.
- These rules are governed by the laws of England and Wales. This competition is administered by Loughborough University Library and their decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into.
